A good construction company could mean the difference between the success and failure of a construction project.
Since construction projects are expensive and lengthy by nature, a good construction company should be efficient and able to maximize resources.
In the Philippines, there are many construction firms but there are a few standouts. If you are thinking of starting your own construction project (or have finally decided to build your own house), you should check out the companies on this list.

Tips on Choosing the Right Construction Company for your Project
The secret to a successful construction process lies in choosing the right service provider. Here are some tips you can follow to ensure you get the right construction company.
Consider your needs
Most construction companies specialize in specific types of buildings, houses, price points, and styles.
For instance, not all construction companies do well in making budget houses, and not all construction companies have a track record in building multi-million mansions. This is why you need to consider your needs.
Price is not the only factor
There is so much competition in the construction industry so it’s not uncommon to see companies bidding low. But even if you’re working with a limited budget, do not toss out other factors out the window and simply pick the company with the lowest bid amount.
If it’s significantly lower than the amount of most contractors, treat that as a warning sign. Instead, choose a company that communicates well, and understands your vision.
Even if you’re spending more, the experience of working with them will make it worth it.
Take a look at their references
Reputation is key in the construction business. Pick a company with an excellent reputation. Research their previous works, and talk to their previous clients so you can get a picture of their level of expertise.
This will also help you get to know their customer service. Once you’ve examined their references, you can start talking to them about the project duration, cost, and other construction details.
They must be licensed
Make sure you are working with a licensed company. Do not be afraid to ask whether or not they have complete registration papers and other necessary documents. Typically, these documents will be displayed in their office.
Aside from that, you should also inquire whether or not they have insurance. Although this is not required in construction projects, it is a big advantage.
They must provide a warranty
When you build a new home or any type of building, it should be under warranty. Therefore, you can have peace of mind that you won’t have to worry about big costs caused by major repairs.
Look for at least a ten-year structural guarantee in commercial establishments or houses. This should be transferable to the new owner in case you decide to sell.
Know who their team members are
The project experience of construction companies is extremely important, and so are the individual experiences of the team members involved. When choosing a construction company, you need to know who will lead the project.
You can ask the construction company for the resume of the key people assigned to your project to know more about their experience, as well as professional designations and education. This usually includes the following:
- Superintendent
- Project executive
- Project and preconstruction manager
They must respect your budget
Although prioritizing cost is not recommended when choosing a construction company, you need a team that is committed to working within your budget, and still considers the quality of the project.
Having this holistic approach will ensure that they won’t be cutting corners, and you won’t have major problems down the road.
Get everything into writing
When it comes to major expenses like construction, you need to get all elements of your agreement into writing. After all, this document won’t only be beneficial to you but also the construction company.
If a company insists not to get things into writing, pick another one. Keep in mind that if you run into any trouble in the future, you can’t have restitution without a written contract.

Construction in the Philippines FAQs
A construction company constructs buildings, properties, facilities, developments, housing, pavement, roads, and motorways, among other construction projects.
Whatever is on the drawing sheets, a construction company makes it real by building it for an amount that they and their clients agree upon. Basically, construction companies execute building and infrastructure work.
The types of construction projects include residential building construction, commercial building construction, industrial construction, and heavy civil construction.
You can expect general contractors to charge anywhere between 10% and 20% of the total construction project cost1. This is also called “cost plus.” You might have to pay closer to 25% if the project is large. General contractors typically do not go with an hourly rate.
As for the construction costs, they vary according to the type (residential or non-residential) and location (region of the country) of the project. The Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that the average residential construction cost per square meter during the fourth quarter of 2020 was Php 10,590.00. For non-residential construction, it was Php 9,772.00.2
Perhaps construction costs vary by region due to material availability and local regulations. During the fourth quarter of 2020, the region with the highest average construction costs for both residential and non-residential types was the National Capital Region (NCR), at Php 14,480.00 and Php 12,209.00 respectively. On the other hand, Region X (Northern Mindanao) had the lowest average construction costs, with Php 5,920.00 for residential projects and Php 7,260.00 for non-residential projects.
In the Philippines, there are architectural firms that sell ready-made house designs. For example, you can buy a design for Php 10,000 from the Philippine House Designs. What you will be getting is their most basic set and it comes with soft copies of the roof and floor plans and architectural details, for drawing and implementation.
They also offer more premium sets, with the most premium ones costing around Php 45,000 to Php 50,000. These sets come with signed and sealed drawings. They also include documents that are required for getting a building permit.3
You can also opt to hire the services of a freelance architect, but there are no standard rates for this.
A key sector of the country’s economy, the construction industry contributed around 336 billion pesos in gross value added (GVA) during the last quarter of 2020.4
GVA is used to adjust gross domestic product (GDP), which is an important indicator of the state of the total economy of a country.
Basically, general contractors take on a project while civil engineers design the project. The contractor implements the specification of the designer in construction. They use the plans and specifications made by the designers (architect, civil engineer, mechanical engineer, etc) in getting the building built.
A general contractor also hires subcontractors and coordinates their work. The general contractor makes sure that the job is on track so that it could be completed on time and does not go over the budget.
As far as I know one of the top construction companies in the Philippines is NCC Development Corp. They are involved in various sectors such as residential, commercial, hospitality and leisure, industrial, mixed use developments and infrastructures. The company has also ventured into projects like power transmission lines and roads widening projects for transport networks.
